I can easily emulate this problem: $ cat /etc/make.conf ftp: foo $ cd /usr/src/usr.bin $ make -n "/usr/share/mk/bsd.subdir.mk", line 81: Inconsistent operator for ftp make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue Send me your /etc/make.conf and /etc/defaults/make.conf.
