Java applets programs on the websites.  To use them, Java must be enabled.  
Given that I have no idea if you're using Konqueror, Mozilla, Netscape, 
Opera, Galeon, Lynx, or some other browser, or even if you're using FreeBSD, 
I can't say anything beyond this.
