Subject: Dealing with bad blocks on IDE disk

This morning my IDE hard disk started coming up with error messages as
follows:

hard error reading fsbn 1507720 of 1507712-1507727 (wd0s2 bn 172912; cn
427 tn 3 sn 59) wd0: status 59<rdy,seekdone,drq,err> error 40<uncorr>

which appears to mean that I have a bad block on my hard disk. How do I go
about fixing this? I've tried using bad144 from a fixit floppy, but it
dies, complaining about 'too many sectors' on my hard disk.

Thanks for any info,
Peter
