I'm considering getting CDPD service, since the price is decent. However, there seems to be large variation in price, and I didn't find references to other people using it successfully under FreeBSD. Bell Atlantic points at the Novatel Ministrel CDPD device (www.novatelwireless.com) as being the cheapest and easiest device. I notice that there are also options to use external cell phones, but I'd rather just have a PCCARD device. Motorolla used to have a CDPD card that just looked like a serial port, but unfortunately that seems no longer to be in production. The web page describes it as: Modem Features - Host interface: PCMCIA Type II - CDPD specification v1.1 - 19.2 kbps full duplex - AT command set, built in TCP/IP, UDP, PPP and SLIP protocols AT command set makes it sound like it looks like a serial device -- but built in TCP/IP? :-) Any suggestions would be much appreciated. After IETF wireless access, I don't see how I survived. Even with high latency and 19.2kbps modem speed, it would be useful and desirable to have.
