If (turn down speakers first to a lower setting) `cat /dev/random > /dev/dsp` doesn't make a sound, try it with one of the other dsp# devices. If successful, you may want to change which device is the default using the step mentinoed at the end of the 'graphics card sound' part of the handbook.
