But, at least I've gotten > started. <...> The two main apps that I know of to set up X colors and dimensions are xf86config and XF86Setup. xf86config is an unforgiving terminal app, but once you get good at it, it's also very fast and efficient. XF86Setup is a GUI setup tool that requires that the VGA driver be installed. I think they're both installed with X.
