I to am having the same problem however I DO NOT have
any spaces in my rc.conf:

defaultrouter="192.168.1.1"
hostname="freebsd.rob897.com"
ifconfig_dc0="inet 192.168.1.2  netmask 255.255.255.0"

The only way I can get online after rebooting is doing
a:

route add default 192.168.1.1

Any ideas how I can fix this permanently?
