For XFree86-4.1 I try: XFree86 -configure and the machine locks up totally. Likewise, when I run xf86config and tell it what's going on, I run into the same problem -- when I run XFree86 the screen goes blank and the machine becomes unresponsive. In the -configure case there is no output to the screen before lockup, and in the other case there is some but I don't get a chance to read it before the screen goes blank. xf86cfg does the same thing. I've tried installing XFree86 version 4.2, and there is no apparent difference. I am running FreeBSD-4.5-RELEASE on the machine. If anyone has any ideas as to things I might be able to try to get X working, I would greatly apreciate it.
