Subject: xmh buttons not selectable

Being back from a 5 day absence I want to read my 9 MB mail file
off line and installed mh/xmh from ports on my 2.1 machine at home.

With both the XF86 as well as the XAccel server I cannot select
the inbox or any of the xmh buttons. Same picture under twm as under olvwm.

 
I tried the magic Xservernumlock enabled/disabled to no avail.
 
Any clues?
