If you're still running a GENERIC kernel though, you really should build a custom kernel. It's fairly straight forward to start with, just delete any devices you don't have (that's a bit simplistic probably, but it's as far as I've got :-). This will a) save time during bootup (this doesn't matter, since you very rarely reboot a Un*x machine of course :-) b) save memory c) save diskspace > or will I still need to compile it?
