Brian Larkins" To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Thinkpad 600X sound troubles X-Mailer: VM 6.72 under 21.1 (patch 8) "Bryce Canyon" XEmacs Lucid Reply-To: brian@lucent.com X-Attribution: Brian Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG I just installed FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE on a new IBM Thinkpad 600X and am having a bit of grief from the CS sound card. I have a strong Unix background, but PC hardware is somewhat unfamiliar territory. Symptom: "$ cat test.au > /dev/audio" does produce some sound, but only in a very faint and highly garbled fashion. Other audio tests result in the same behaviour (wav, mp3, etc...) Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next to get this working properly? Configuration data: dmesg says: pcic-pci0: mem 0x50103000-0x50103fff irq 11 at device 2.0 on pci0 pcic-pci1: mem 0x50102000-0x50102fff irq 11 at device 2.1 on pci0 pci0: (vendor=0x11c1, dev=0x0449) at 3.0 irq 11 csa0: mem 0x50000000-0x 500fffff,0x50100000-0x50100fff irq 11 at device 6.0 on pci0 pcm0: on csa0 kernel config: options PNPBIOS # For PnP/PCI sound cards device pcm device csa cat /dev/sndstat: FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Mar 24 2000 09:31:38 Installed devices: pcm0: at irq 11 (1p/1r channels duplex) device entries in /dev: 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 0 Mar 24 09:47 mixer0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 1 Mar 24 09:47 sequencer0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 2 Mar 24 09:47 midi0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 3 Mar 24 09:47 dsp0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 9 Mar 24 09:47 pss0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 8 Mar 24 09:47 music0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 6 Mar 24 09:47 sndstat 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 5 Mar 24 09:47 dspW0 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 4 Mar 24 09:48 audio0 -- "As soon as questions of will or decision or reason or choice of action arise, human science is at a loss." - Noam Chomsky To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
