I've talked to Mike Silbersack about this a while ago, and the 'autosizing' just picks a reasonable value, according to your RAM. I've even bumped maxusers to 768 which should be the same value as chosen by the autosizing. I don't run into any problems now, but I don't use the Gigabit link at the moment.
