press any key during countdown (except enter)
from the "diskXXX>" prompt type

set root_disc_unit=2 (try 0,1,2,3,4,5,...:-),

after boot log in as root and
# echo "1:wd(2,a)kernel" > boot.config
(it works for IDE, for SCSI _maybe_ it will be "sd(2,a)kernel")
