No, /dev/tty00 is actually the first serial port.  You're
correct in assuming that you need to recompile your kernel
with the mse device.  See /sys/i386/conf/LINT for an option
line.

as I have, coincidently, just added an entry on kernel configuration.

No, it's just that Microsoft Windows has a bus mouse driver and
FreeBSD doesn't have one compiled in yet.  It's not often used
enough to be a default, I guess!
