The basic point is that FreeBSD does not do the device enumeration and therefore any device that has not been configured by the BIOS or the previous OS (like Windows) is not accessable. Sometimes the BIOS wipes the configuration upon reboot and in that case the settings Windows has left behind are no longer available.
