Okay,

Just had a chance to test out the snd970806.tgz sound snap. It now detects
and seems to configure pcm0 okay.  I don't think I saw any mention of MSS on
the probe of this Opti 925 chipset card, but it does try to look for SB
version and couldn't find it. 

Then before the bootup is complete, it stays in an endless loop -- something
to do with the ad1848 and an interrupt problem.  The system never gets to
complete the bootup part.  I will test the snd970805.tgz next.
