They do not appear in the print outs. When a diagram does appear during that brief fraction of a second, it is improperly positioned and improperly sized. I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0. Primary system here is a Macintosh Titanium G4 laptop with 384Mb of RAM running OS X. I have also tried displaying the handbook on an old 300 Mhz Celeron system with 64Mb of Ram and found the same results, again running Acrobat Reader 5.0.
