This is a repeat of a fix I have locally.  Unless a problem is really
critical try to leave this stuff alone for a little while longer.

I'm sorry for sitting on the fixes, but I am merging in some fixes from
Julian and really think I should test them first.

If something is critical feel free to try to prod me into more action.
