This is not recommended and is disabled by default. If you really want to change this, edit /etc/ssh/sshd_login, uncomment the line PermitRootLogin No and change it to Yes. Better still, create a normal user account, add it to the wheel group and use it to ssh to the machine then, use su when needed.
