Hello,
I wonder if this is the place to post this question, I have read the charter
but if I misunderstood the purpose of this list please accept my apologies.
Here it is...
I have Linux installed on my PIII with the above video and sound cards. They
are working happily.
I heard that freeBSD , overall is better than Linux , so I want to see if
there is any truth to this.
My problem are the following:
1.) The above video card (Viper V770)is not supported by the latest XFree86
at this time, that is why I have to download from nVidia their linux XFree86
driver. No use pointing me to XFree86 web page, i have been there and have
done that and it did not have the answers.Has anyone of you got this video
card chip running on your machine? The source is available for this driver,
should I recompile it under freeBSD?
2.) The sound card (Audio Excel 16 compaitble ) chip I have is CMI8338.
Again, I have downloaded their driver for Linux, the source is available,
after compiling the module and installing, it worked, in Linux. Has anyone
got this chip running on their freeBSD? If so could you please help.
I guess what I am getting at is this, if a driver is working in Linux, would
it also work after compiling with freeBSD? If not, then a porting excercise
is necessary, is this correct? Better yet, if anyone out there has got these
going on their freeBSD then I would be appreciative if you could point me in
the directions you've taken.
