Hi,

1) I always update my system via cvsup and sysintall need to be updated by
hand:

# cd /usr/src/release/sysinstall
# make all install

(see handbook)

I've never experiment a binary upgrade, but you can try install FreeBSD 4.4
sources from the cd and compile sysinstall like above.

2) I think the easiest way of upgrading a system is cvsup and you don't need
a good connection to do it, a 56K modem is just fine.
