If the "47 page doc" is Nik Clayton's "Making your own world" then
it refers to ``dircomp.pl''. This won't run properly under 3.x
(using perl 5.x, it requires perl 4.x) so mergemaster is the correct
solution. It helps you selectively integrate changes into /etc.
