Did you rewind the remote tape between the rdump and the rrestore ?
i am missing a "rsh korney mt -f /dev/nrmt0h rewind " here :-).

If you have forgotten the rewind, then you have simply read older
cruft on the tape, that was behind your successfull dump. This would
explain the skipped blocks and the strange modes.
