[snip] Absolutely not. The autotools really don't care what compiler(s) you have around. If you'd inspected the error output a little more closely, you'd have seen: [...] configure:1612: gcc295 -O -pipe -march=pentium3 conftest.c >&5 cc1: bad value (pentium3) for -march= switch [...] GCC 2.95 don't have newer options that a lot of people are setting in their /etc/make.conf.
