Just a "me too", here, in case it helps others.

* "ATI Radeon HD 4200" (ChipID =3D 0x9710)
* BIOS boot (not UEFI)
* FreeBSD 11.2/amd64
* xorg-server-1.19.6_1,1

Adding drm-kmod (which in turn installed drm-stable-kmod and gpu-firmware-k=
mod)
solved this problem.
