Getting the SGI machine isn't the problem - getting the Kit is.. I've seen the development kit in action at EA Canada, it's just a card that plugs into an O2 or Octane - quite neat. Considering you can get an O2 with the R10000 and Alias/Wavefront bundled for $15k, it's not a bad deal. I tried to get a kit for a project, but it was impossible to convince Nintendo that I should have a kit... It seems that unless you're a multi-million dollar game house, they don't want to hear from you. To be expected, but disapointing non-the-less... It's too bad, since you get OpenGL, sound, 100MHz CPU, 4MB of Rambus RAM (500MB/s IO throughput - drooool), and video hardware for $150. String a couple together and the government will be coming after you requiring a supercomputer license.. :-) -Mark > > Ulf. > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > Ulf Zimmermann, 1525 Pacific Ave., Alameda, CA-94501, #: 510-769-2936 > Alameda Networks, Inc. | http://www.Alameda.net | Fax#: 510-521-5073 -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Mayo mark@vmunix.com RingZero Comp. http://www.vmunix.com/mark finger mark@vmunix.com for my PGP key and GCS code ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Win95/NT - 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition. -UGU
