Actually, I think you probably do have the skills to do it.

And the port is not maintained at all (and apparently hasn't been for quite
some time).  I suspect the port is better off in your hands than no hands at
all.

And who knows, maybe the experience will help you pick up other interesting
unmaintained ports as well.
