Yea, It works pretty good.  I have socksified sup, ncftp (1.x), plus all of
the standard socks stuff (telnet, ftp, ...).  I think I just followed the
Makefile definitions for FreeBSD 1.x and did a make (or maybe a gmake).
There was some configuration stuff to set up, but the docs that come with
socks were good enough to get that going.
