Do you mean that you have your system set to load X immediately upon booting, and that you do not set the keyboard repeat rate before then? If so, put the following in /etc/rc.conf: keyrate="fast" And all should be well. Also note that you do not need to be root to issue that command. I need to do this command a lot when I reboot a machine on my KVM, because it registers as a keyboard disconnect which fouls up the keyboard settings, and having to su root each time would be rather annoying.
