OK, but even then so it's a bug to be fixed in vidcontrol.  It could
add extra cruft to the script to try and detect the serial console
case and not invoke vidcontrol, of course, but I think it makes far
more sense to teach vidcontrol about the possibility of being called
on non syscons vtys. :)
