I have been told this is a DNS issue. Your server (that you are connecting to) is looking for a reverse DNS or a PTR record for the host you are coming from. I would think that as a quick test...put the entries for your machines in /etc/hosts (man hosts?) on both machines and see if this fixes the problem. It can be a temp fix but you could keep those entries there permanently too and it should be a perm fix if you don't want to mess with DNS.
