If the problem is that the compressed kernel and the uncompressed kernel
don't fit in memory, then why not keep the compressed kernel image on disk
and load it in pieces as it becomes necessary for decompression.  I could 
imagine that a 64K buffer would be sufficient (if a little slow.)
