Hmm, well this answers a long standing question. I never did find out if 
you could change the root device name once FreeBSD was installed. What 
happend was that after install BeOS, which required to be on the standard 
non-ata66 channel, I didnt switch channels and the device name became 
different.

So there is no way to change device names? it seems so....not freebsd? if 
you know what I mean.
