Probably because the pkg-descr of /usr/ports/sysutils/pkg-descr
pretends that cdrecord supports ATAPI burners whereas, in fact, it
doesn't (for FreeBSD, at least). It seems that FreeBSD doesn't want a
SCSI emulation layer like Linux. CDD Maybe there's good reasons, but i see
a major drawback: you have to say goodbye to things like CD-Record,
X-CDRoast, and the like.

Use burncd... works very well but there is no graphical frontends (AFAIK).

For the record: cdda2wav (which is in the same port) _does_ work with
ATAPI CD. All is not very very clear ;-)
