From the interesting and weird department: I tried a kernel without APM, and no hang (and killed off SETI@home). Rebuilt a kernel with APM, no hang. Reset all the APM stuff to default, and the ToPIC ID's as a ToPIC97 now. No hang, at all, under conditions that WERE hanging on Monday (modulo SETI@home not running today, and it WAS running on Monday, just not getting through to Berkeley. I hate Intermittent Issues with such a Passion. :-).
