By default, ANY .sh file located in /usr/local/etc/rc.d is executed at startup. You do not need to put any calls to them anywhere; /etc/rc should already call them. Try doing a 'ps -ax' and see if exim/mysql are running. Yes, echo 'sendmail_enable="no"' >>/etc/rc.conf , is the only thing you need to do to disable sendmail; do not remove it.
