My idea was to have a common dir to look for "any-version" in eg
/var/db/gtk. If some version exists we can register the port we are
installing with that gtk version and dependencies are correct. Today it will
try to register with the portversion in /usr/ports which isn't (always) what
is installed. With a one-level struct we can achieve the same thing, but
then we need do some regexp on every portdirname in /var/db/pkg to see if it
matches our name - i really don't like that idea. that's why I began
thinking in multi-level /var/db/pkg system.

does this seem totally stupid? (it doesn't to me, but i am not familiar with
how big a change this is :))
