I personally have had great success with TridiaVNC. Although it is a little old now I can get the same feature set on all platforms - w32, freebsd, solaris and they all interwork just fine. In other experience most versions will interwork with the basic features. If you want some fancy specific features then you need to investigate the offerings of each individual version.
