Several folks on this list have been kind enough to have responded with suggestions. While all suggestions were considered and acted upon, none of them proved fruitful. Finally, yesterday, my ISP responded to an e-mail I had sent them this pst weekend. According to them this problem has been reported by several other customer using Unix boxes. Per their staff, due the restructuring of the network the DHCP server could be as far away as 20 hops. I am told that dhclient has some hard-coded hops maximum of 16. It has been recommended that I try to increase this value to 20 and try again. My question is, how and where do make the change(s) that will increase the maximum hop limit?
