Did you follow the instructions in the handbook? How deep is your technical ability? Are you knowledgeable regarding cylinders, sectors, BIOS, and such? >same information which appears to be a command options list for the "Boot:" >prompt. Whoever on -hackers was rude to you should be more polite, but you'd probably admit it would get really old getting messages from people who haven't taken the time to read the mailing lists charters which describe what each list is for. >The version of FreeBSD that I am trying >to install is: > >CD_VERSION = 3.0-19990209-STABLE > >I made the CD myself, by downloading the files under the -STABLE section. >If needed I can provide a listing of the CD. I am constantly amazed that people who know absolutely nothing about freebsd decide to make their own CD. Why would anyone select the most difficult route? Why not install directly over the web, or buy the official CDs from Walnut Creek or CheapBytes? Why would you guys think anyone would want to spend their leisure time helping you when you selected the more difficult route. I'd rather be drinking a beer... Stepping down from my soapbox: You can search the archives and find some info about a web page someone created containing instruction on how to make your own CD and see if you missed any files and such. But I'd still strongly recommend just buying the official CDs. In spite of my raving, welcome to freebsd. Please remember these mailing lists are responded to by volunteers. Not paid people. You are not a customer when you get software for free. Even if you pay for the official CDs, you're expectations as a "customer" is limited to defects in the CDs themselves, not it's actual contents (which is free). By the way, very few people monitoring these lists and responding to your questions are officially releated to freebsd. So keep in mind that whatever responses you get are much the same as you might get if you went to central park and asked a question. There just might be an a-hole there that beats you up because he didn't like your question. That's the downside of a free society... So the moral of this long-winded story is: Don't be dissuaded by a-holes. The world is full of them and this ain't no sanctuary. Steve Friedrich Viva la FreeBSD!!
