Hello, I am running pine# uname -a FreeBSD pipe.cs.vt.edu 4.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE #0: Mon Mar 20 22:50:22 GMT 2000 root@monster.cdrom.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386 I was unable to build ports on it. I needed an upgrade kit. I dowloaded the 4.0 to 4-STABLE upgrade kit and the 4.1 to 4-STABLE upgrade kit, 40upgrade.tgz and 41upgrade.tgz respectively. I gunziped both and ran as root pipe# pkg_add -v 40upgrade.tar and then pipe# pkg_add -v 41upgrade.tar I was given no error messages. However, I feel I screwed up my system big time. When I run, see below, I get the following error: pipe# pkg_info -aI /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libfetch.so.2" not found Furthermore, whenever I try to telnet, I get the following error: pipe# telnet csgrad.cs.vt.edu csgrad.cs.vt.edu: No address associated with hostname ssh is not working and I cannot ftp to or from my machine. I am led to believe that I screwed up libc.so.4 The following info may help: pipe# more /var/db/pkg/40upgrade-2000.08.25/+CONTENTS @name 40upgrade-2000.08.25 @cwd / etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist @comment MD5:ceaa580e0215ff05f0c439cacbe676d0 usr/lib/libc.so.4 @comment MD5:dfb8b3f0d933a10965445bb6c54b814e usr/lib/libxpg4.so @comment MD5:c0ffb3e13fc72350675e2a10fa588f20 usr/lib/libxpg4.so.3 @cwd . @ignore +COMMENT @ignore +DESC @ignore +INSTALL @ignore +REQUIRE pipe# more /var/db/pkg/41upgrade-2000.11.01/+CONTENTS @name 41upgrade-2000.11.01 @cwd / @comment ORIGIN:misc/41upgrade /usr/share/man/man1/pkg_add.1.gz @comment MD5:827ea2ca289d5048b477226573da60e4 /usr/share/man/man1/pkg_create.1.gz @comment MD5:a910a2ba8a8529a227c0654d11dd9f81 /usr/share/man/man1/pkg_delete.1.gz @comment MD5:9f0f9c9d502edc2741b5a58e5eed771b /usr/share/man/man1/pkg_info.1.gz @comment MD5:6e82b8763ee901702d5f203e7cbe1c32 /usr/share/man/man1/pkg_version.1.gz @comment MD5:989bf26aa4901841c68f6342f011a239 etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist @comment MD5:95161cb0c611f15c5abfb42fd030699b usr/sbin/pkg_add @comment MD5:c1d1ae54442a7e1f4e7923649866e768 usr/sbin/pkg_create @comment MD5:42bc1ceaafdac840d72d52a5552d1759 usr/sbin/pkg_delete @comment MD5:f1f1bfe25a2e3629469df4cf191fdaf8 usr/sbin/pkg_info @comment MD5:a4c70dc391dc2b90d97f12601ffd066a usr/sbin/pkg_version @comment MD5:9f0618281b04eb9b31cbb2a3777fe363 @cwd . @ignore +COMMENT @ignore +DESC @ignore +INSTALL @ignore +REQUIRE pipe# ls -l /usr/lib/libc* -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1128450 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 9 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libc.so -> libc.so.4 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 557608 Sep 21 14:47 /usr/lib/libc.so.4 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1225158 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1357354 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc_pic.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1364224 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc_r.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 11 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libc_r.so -> libc_r.so.4 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 629264 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc_r.so.4 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1478970 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libc_r_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 4264 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcalendar.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 16 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcalendar.so -> libcalendar.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 4384 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcalendar.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 4916 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcalendar_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 56570 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcam.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 11 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcam.so -> libcam.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 51616 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcam.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 58302 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcam_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 6368 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcipher.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcipher.so -> libcipher.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 6440 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcipher.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 7550 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcipher_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 3662 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcom_err.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 15 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcom_err.so -> libcom_err.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 3956 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcom_err.so.2 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 4122 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcom_err_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 31396 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcompat.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 34362 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcompat_p.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 13 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypt.a -> libdescrypt.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypt.so -> libdescrypt.so lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 16 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypt.so.2 -> libdescrypt.so.2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 15 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypt_p.a -> libdescrypt_p.a -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1089776 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypto.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 Apr 19 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so -> libcrypto.so.1 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 655796 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1 -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1163664 Mar 20 2000 /usr/lib/libcrypto_p.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 12 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcurses.a -> libncurses.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 13 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcurses.so -> libncurses.so lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 Apr 15 2000 /usr/lib/libcurses_p.a -> libncurses_p.a I would appreciate any help or insight into what is happening.
