November 97 over here :) You should be able to use FreeBSD's TCP/IP,
although (depending on the cable internet provider) you may have to get
install DHCP support (@Home, used by TCI, will switch to DHCP from static
IPs). I don't know how to get DHCP support, but someone mentioned how to
install it on this mailing list before.

I wonder if the cable modem software installer guy will know how to set up
FreeBSD for the network card ;)  (they are usually required to provide one).
