The first tape unit in the system.

You don't even say if you have a tape, let alone whether the system
doesn't handle it.  If you have a different archive file, you can
either set the environment variable TAPE to its name (for example,
/dev/rsa1 for the second tape unit), or use the -f option to tar if
you're working from a file (for example, tar xf foo.tar).
