After entering the GELI passphrase, the machine boots to the "login: " prompt: $ freebsd-version; uname -a 11.2-RELEASE FreeBSD beastie 11.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE #0 r335510: Fri Jun 22 04:32:14 UTC 2018 root@releng2.nyi.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 $ gpart show da0 => 63 31266753 da0 MBR (15G) 63 1 - free - (512B) 64 31266752 1 freebsd [active] (15G) $ gpart show da1 gpart: No such geom: da1. So, it appears that I must use CD installation media, not memstick media, when I want to install to a USB flash drive (?). David
