The bad news is that this is because it can't find init, because it can't mount the root. :-) This is with a complete stock GENERIC kernel, make.conf, etc. (I reverted while debugging the -other- problem.) The partition mounts just peachily from the live filesystem CD. It's a UFS1 partition, if it's relevant. Strikes me as an 'oops.' :-) -Cliff L. Biffle
