Thanks. Just had this experience with a 3Com 509B. It just sat there until I aborted the installation. Once I had disabled Plug and Play on the card (mail for details) the message flashed past in the blink of an eye. After that: magical, glitch-free installation (from ftp.FreeBSD.org) with lots of info about what was going on. Hope this helps.
