There's a tricky was to do this; apparently you're ignorant of it :-) It's described in the man page and at http://www.vinumvm.org/cfbsd/vinum.pdf . Basically, it involves overlaying the Vinum subdisk with a BSD partition for booting. This means that the plex must be concat. Striped plexes have a layout that is incompatible with BSD partitions.
