However, that change <http://url.ie/11fl>; didn't introduce a dependency on NumPy; all it did was remove some needless cruft from the bindings. All that cairo.ImageSurface.create_for_data() requires is an object that can be flattened by PyObject_AsWriteBuffer() such as an instance of array.array, a NumPy array of some kind, &c. This is demonstrated by the sample files within the distribution's test directory.
