Hmmm, I don't agree with you completely. DEPRECATION seems perfectly 
correct to me, the port is set deprecated so users and maintainers know 
they should switch to the recommended giflib. We can argue on 
EXPIRATION_DATE, I imagine that if it's set someone has patches for all 
depending ports and they will be committed before that date.
