Squirrelmail has a pop3-plugin available for fetching pop from pop3-servers but squirrelmail needs an IMAP-server somewhere anyway (there's UW-imap, Cyrus-imap, Courier-imap and more options) when you use your ISP's smtp-host in the squirrelmail-settings then you don't need to set up your smtp-software for that
